Based on the true story of Walter Sekules, Csilla Toldy tells the inspiring story of how a ten-year-old boy and his Austrian family survived the Holocaust and came to Northern Ireland in 1950 where they set up a knitwear business in Kilkeel, Co. Down.

Walter is a young Jewish boy, growing up in a camp for enemy aliens in Kazakhstan, where the winters are harsh and the summers are hot. For Walter, the camp is the only home he knows for seven years, while the Second World War is raging in Europe.

In the autumn, when the fields turn into swamps, he contracts Malaria. He makes friendships with the soldiers who guard them. When the war is over, he and his family embark on a three thousand-mile journey through war-torn Europe, in search of the rest of their family and a new “home”.

the book will be launched n February 15th and copies of the book will be donated to local libraries and schools in NI and England where members of the Sekules family and the author Csilla can be booked to give talks about the book.
